Salt & Pepper news from Polarzoo

Salt and Pepper are 12 weeks old now, weighing almost 6kg. Their newest accomplishment is the ability of walking! They are walking, running, jumping all over the place.. They are crazy on their toys, especially when there is a little honey on it to find! The most active behaviour shows when it is cold and dimmed light in their ‘den’ and they have a pillow to cuddle on. Almost all their teeth have come out now and they like and need to use them as well., especially on their big tree log that smells like the outside. .In play with each other they are starting to learn about pain and how sharp their claws and teeth are. Salt and Pepper experience a little bit of the outside world now every day. They are always free to go back to their ‘den’ and hide from public attention.

Every day at two 14:00 you get the opportunity to see the bears outside the veterinarian room in Polarzoo!

Salt an Pepper are developing a really strong bound to their foster-mother Anita Hansen. The interaction with strangers is kept at a minimum to not get the bears distressed. The sense of smell has developed to their strongest sense so far and even in their sleep the bears recognize when someone enters the room.  When they smell Anita they start to make their cuddling sound. It is a deep humming with a high pitched rattle sound on top of it, that displace pleasure and the feeling of safeness. The bears are also already starting on eating solid food now, which is made from cat food became sodden in water and milk. Especially Salt loves her Bearmash. Pepper is a little more careful when it comes to new food and especially when it can wet his feet! In opposite of his sister, wet feet of from snow, food or excrements are nothing the little Pepper finds amusing! Speaking of amusing…bears are highly intelligent creatures and laughing at them can hurt their feelings!
